Potluck

Hello,
Some possible categories for the upcoming potluck are main dish, salads, appetizers, dessert. Could you reply with the item you plan to bring?  That would be fab. I'll do the same as I haven't decided yet :) Thanks.

Thursday Dec 3rd: No Class (probably)

Hi Guys,

I wanted to post this up now with lots of notice.

Next week on Thursday December 3 there will be no class. I have been asked by my school (well, the leadership kids anyway) to play the role of Santa at our 18th annual Community Christmas dinner. This is a dinner hosted by the kids of our school for the less fortunate in the community.

I played the role of Santa last year and it was a wonderful night. I look forward to playing the role again.

We will move a few things around in our schedule. plus I'll give you a take home assignment to complete on Wednesday night. Remember that we have the quiz the following Wednesday and that Thursday night will be a prep night. So we are okay.

Have a great night....see you soon.

Electronic dictionaries

Hello everyone,

It's my turn to post a topic for discussion. I notice in my practicum class a couple of students constantly use electronic dictionaries. In your opinion, does this seriously impact on the development of fluency or any of the skills we're focusing on? Should use be limited for some activities? I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this subject. Thanks!

Post Your Task and Get Inputs: Collective Brainstorming to Handle Debbie's Presentation Challenge

Hello, TESOL folks:

So pleased to orchestrate our TESOL Blog this week.  My greatest appreciation goes to everyone of our TESOL Family. As the ancient Chinese saying goes "We come from Four Seas, yet we are all brothers and sisters", let's cherish the precious karma we have to be within TESOL.

I would like to propose an initiative helpful to each of us, namely, each of use post your Debbie task here along with your draft idea, and get input from any other TESOL members? You can directly make a new post with your task on it.

One of the biggest benefits is that you can get or solicit input from the date of posting until your final presentation day! And, you can even directly solicit expert input from Marc or Debbie!

I would like to be the first one to post my task and beg any TESOL brothers and sisters to lend your kind hands to give your precious ideas or suggestions.

TOPIC:  Cultural Diversity in the Classroom.

Imagine a group of students that come from countries that are at war with each others.
What kinds of problems may erupt during class?
What are your ways to prevent the problems or mitigate them?

Create and teach a dialogue that would help students focus on their similarities instead of differences.

My presentation has 2 components: Class presentation and a related teaching activities.

Please kindly help me with any idea or suggestions.
